550 new words and a page in a journal. Walked through the fantastic autumn afternoon here while listening to Buck Owens and conjuring up the depraved lives of people whose houses I passed. Many story ideas gleaned.
Back from the flu and two back-to-back visits from in-laws. Compiled a list of journals to send stuff out to. Had a long, helpful conversation about the intricacies of sharing literary work with people in one's life. Thought of how silly I am to think, recently, that well-wrought words have magical powers. The husband of a good friend-poet, a hugely talented translator just passed away and I could do NOTHING about it. Don't even know where this silly belief comes from. Is this common for inexperienced writers? SO frustrating to feel powerful in literature and powerless in life... -Olga
Wrote about 500 great words today, revised 1000-ish more. But even better, at work I came up with a great, great pun for a title. Like, genius-level. Bam.
500 words, and got some good publishing news which I will share once it was official, which is always nice on Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year). Plan to write tomorrow even though it's a holiday! 1000 words would be nice.
I only estimate my time, and I don't count time when I am thinking without putting words down, even though that is sometimes the most valuable time. I would probably slow down a lot if I had to work on a single project for a deadline, but I usually change projects if nothing is coming out. Thank you for thinking it's amazing.
A couple hours, once again paid for, a few pages in the journal rambling and working out ideas for this poem that just won't seem to come together for me. I may have kind of figured it out, finally. We'll see.

ReplyDeleteIt was a fantastic autumn afternoon here as well. I sat on the front porch and tried to absorb enough of it to last me through winter.

1400 productive words and three journal pages. It helps to call in sick every once in a while.
ReplyDelete"Sick days" are the best.
Delete2 hours. 2000 words. ** Started a new story and put down some ideas for later.
ReplyDeleteYou seem to average 1000 words per hour. Kind of amazing, really.
