Three hours of whittling away at pages already written - Two hours working on fragments of poems that seem to be forming a new piece. Good to be back at the keyboard while the rain hammers down from the roof of the world.
Confession: When I finish major revisions, I usually took a few days off. Catch up on being a mom, wife, and grading. Reading daily though...today, working on a book review.
I journaled yesterday for a while and then upon having the house to myself for the first time in a very long time I proceeded to wander from room to room and make mental notes of all the things that have gone undone around here for far too long. Not exactly the quiet day of writing that I'd imagined. Spent last night at an awkward potluck, which has given me something to write about today. So for today a few paragraphs about that and some journaling. Tomorrow I need to work on fiction again.
1 hour. 1000 words. * I'm trying to write my way into a story that I have no clear idea about. It is starting to work, but I am not sure it is worth the effort when I have other stories waiting. Took my five-year-old to listen to Rushad Eggleston play the cello tonight. In honor of his style, I typed this message with my tongue while humming an alien anthem.
Sick day for me today. In late pm, spent 90 minutes doing revision-oriented re-reading of ms, feeling like it wasn't the same thing as writing, but trying to log a "daily" nonetheless. Result of re-read: I feel like a quilter staring at a lot of scraps, some just what I need, some of which I already have forgotten about acquiring, none of them ready to be pieced together in final form yet.

ReplyDeleteIt must have been a good show to inspire tongue typing.
DeleteLike.
Delete1000 new words. 1 page in a journal. No revisions. BUT whiskey!
ReplyDeleteNo revisions needed when there's whiskey!
DeleteFirst day of new job + first day of gross new head cold = not much real writing. Just a bit of journaling. Tomorrow will be better?
